Mayhem in the Midlands logo Midwest mystery fans recently enjoyed attending the 11th annual Mayhem in the Midlands Mystery Convention, sponsored by the Omaha Public Library. The 11th Mayhem was held over the 2010 Memorial Day weekend in Omaha (May 27-29, 2010), at its traditional location -- the Embassy Suites in downtown Omaha (555 S. 10th St.). The Guest of Honor for 2010 was Deborah Crombie, author of Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James mystery series. Toastmaster of Honor was Marcia Talley, and the Caroline Willner Special Guest was Steve Hamilton.

One Book One Nebraska logo Following the ongoing success of the first several years of One Book One Nebraska, featuring Willa Cather's My Antonia, Omaha mystery novelist Alex Kava's One False Move, Mari Sandoz' classic history text Crazy Horse, Nebraska State Poet William Kloefkorn's autobiography Restoring the Burnt Child, and Bess Streeter Aldrich's A Lantern in Her Hand, the Nebraska Library Commission, the Nebraska Center for the Book, the Nebraska Library Association, the Nebraska Regional Library Systems and other organizations are sponsoring yet another year of One Book One Nebraska in 2010!

The Home PlaceThe 2010 selected title is Wright Morris' novel, The Home Place. You can find more information about the 2005-2010 events at the official One Book One Nebraska Web site.

Turning the Pages of Romance logo Fans of Romance Fiction joined with a dozen romance authors at each of Lincoln's three Turning the Pages of Romance conferences, in 2004, 2005 and 2006. These events, co-sponsored by the Lincoln City Libraries and the Omaha Public Library, proved to be a popular way to meet and interact with professional romance authors from the midwest each Spring.
